Every door model is developed for a particular task. Utilizing a door in an inappropriate place leads to early deterioration, frigid curtains, or a breach in your security.
Security Shutters
Why are roll-up security shutters not recommended for parking garages?
Security shutters utilize tube motors that are made for light everyday application with about 1 to 6 cycles per hour. A carport has more cycles and can overheat the motor, causing it to deteriorate early on. A shutter is void of safety features to safeguard people, pets, or vehicles below a descending door. Utilize security shutters where they perform highly such as storefronts, counters, and windows.
Vinyl Roll-Up Doors
Can vinyl roll-up doors be installed on walk-in coolers or freezers?
Can be installed in coolers, but not in freezers. A 40 oz vinyl door can be installed outside of a busy commercial cooler to confine cold air while loading, as long as an insulated main door seals the cooler after several hours. Vinyl doors have no R-value or insulation rating. If set on a freezer, ice and frost may build up and damage the door. More information on our roll-up vinyl doors page.
Should flexible vinyl roll-up doors be used for building security?
We suggest not. Vinyl and mesh doors are developed for pest control, temperature regulation, and steady traffic flow. These door types do not offer any physical security since a hand tool or even a knife can cut the curtain.
