Flexible vinyl and mesh doors are developed to endure impacts and quickly resume its functionality. Described is the aftermath following an impact, how wind affects the doors, and the steps to follow in a power outage or after a tear.
Impacts and Wind
What happens if a forklift hits a flexible vinyl roll-up door?
After impact, the curtain gets disconnected from the side tracks instead of the door breaking up. The door has a bottom bar that has replaceable breakaway tabs and detaches after a strong impact. This mechanism protects the bottom bar and side guide rails from expensive damage. This is why our roll-up vinyl doors meet the demands of busy forklift aisles.
How do vinyl roll-up doors handle wind and negative air pressure?
For interior and light exterior doorways, horizontal fiberglass wind bars and a heavier bottom bar will keep the curtain stable. Since the curtain is developed to detach when hit, powerful winds or severe negative air pressure from HVAC systems can disconnect it from the side tracks. Request for sturdier wind bars or wider tracks if the opening is drafty.
Power Outages and Repairs
How do you open a motorized vinyl door during a power outage?
It depends on the type of motor.
- High-cycle jackshaft operator systems have an integrated hand chain that lifts or lowers the door requiring no power.
- In-tube motor doors do not have a manual chain. In case of emergency, raise the bottom bar away from one side of the side track to open the passage.
Can a torn vinyl curtain be repaired on site?
Yes, but only for small tears that can be restored with a vinyl repair kit. If it is a cut or a puncture damage, the curtain cannot be mended in the field. A severely damaged vinyl or curtain can be replaced with a new one, retaining the original tracks or roll tube. Replacement curtains function similarly on our commercial roll-up bug doors.
