Choose The Right Steel Door
Steel roll-up doors enclose commercial entrances, made with corrugated steel panels that coil above the opening. We provide five variants to fit various jobs.
Begin with the primary concerns - daily security, weighty construction, insulation, frequent use, or a fire rating.
Unsure of choosing a type? Send us the size of the opening and some photos. We can assist you in evaluating the selections.
Choose From Five Steel Door Types
Five door types. Five different jobs. Start with the main reason you need a door.
1Standard
Steel Doors
Everyday Closure
A basic steel door for daily use. It utilizes a hand chain that lifts and lowers it.
Select this type if you need a simple steel door with no insulation or a fire rating.
2Heavy-Duty
Steel Doors
Heavier Construction
More robust guides and further choices for size and slat, ideal for bigger or more rigorous openings.
Select this if you require a bigger door or the construction is tougher.
3Insulated
Steel Doors
Help Keep Heat In Or Out
This type has an insulating core within the steel slats and minimizes heat penetrating the closed door.
Select this if your store or workplace is heated or cooled.
4High-Performance
Steel Doors
Faster, Frequent Opening
It has a speedier motor system for active doorways that open and shut repeatedly.
Ideal for this type are areas where traffic passes through the opening frequently.
5Fire-Rated
Steel Doors
Meet A Required Fire Rating
This is a certified door assembly that can seal off when heat or a linked alarm system triggers it.
Select this option if your structural layout requires a fire-rated opening.
Some requirements intersect. An example would be an insulated fire-door model which can provide both insulation and a fire rating. We can assist in recommending the right door and preferences.

How To Measure Your Opening
All you need is a measuring tape. Use inches for measurement, note down the numbers and input them on the quote form. If there are uncertain aspects, send photos of the opening and the surrounding wall so we can examine them for you.
Four Measurements
- A. Width: Measure the opening from jamb to jamb. Check the top, middle and bottom, and use the largest number.
- B. Height: Measure from the floor to the underside of the header at the top of the opening. If the floor slopes, measure both sides.
- C. Headroom: Measure from the top of the opening to the ceiling or the lowest thing in the way, such as a pipe, light or beam. The coiled door sits here.
- D. Side Room: Measure the clear wall on each side of the opening. The guides sit here, plus the chain hoist or motor on one side.
Minimum Space For A Standard Door
Headroom
20 to 23 in above the opening
Hoist Or Motor Side
10 in beside the opening
Other Side
7 in beside the opening
Wall Depth
20 to 23 in out from the wall
These are standard baselines for a typical steel door. Doors that are taller refer to higher numbers. Robust, insulated, fire-rated, and optimum-efficiency doors generally require more room. We can verify the precise margins with your quote.
Choose A Mounting Type
Typically, doors are mounted on the wall surface. If uncertain on the right choice, click Not Sure on the quote form, submit a photo, and we will come up with a recommendation.
Color Options
Every steel door is furnished with selections of factory finishes. Choose a painted topcoat, a plain galvanized steel, or a customized powder coat to conform to your structure. Not all finishings are available on every type of door so check the list below.

Steel Roll-Up Door Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most.
Which steel door should I choose?
Begin with the job. Standard doors are for daily openings, while robust doors are ideal for large or rigorous openings. For heated or cooled areas, insulated doors are adequate. Optimum-efficiency doors are appropriate for busy doorways, and fire-rated doors follow needed requirements. If uncertain, select “Not Sure” on the quote form and we will propose one.
Are all steel roll-up doors insulated?
No. The only doors with a foam core within the slats (R-7.2) are insulated doors. Standard and industrial-grade doors are unilayer steel.
Does motorized mean high speed?
Not necessarily. Most doors utilize a motor. The fastest option are optimum-efficiency doors. These doors open 2 feet per second and are fabricated for 400,000 cycles.
Is every steel door fire-rated?
No. Fire-rated doors are UL-marked and close independently in a fire. Ratings span from Âľ hour to 4 hours. A normal steel door is not an alternative.
Can I get a wind-rated door?
Absolutely. Durable and insulated doors have wind-certified options, including Florida, Texas, and Miami-Dade authorizations. Inform us of your required plan ratings.
How much space do I need?
A standard door requires an allowance of about 20 to 23 inches at the top opening and 7 to 10 inches on either side. Bigger and heavier doors require more. Refer to How To Measure Your Opening segment above.
How much does a steel door cost?
Cost is dependent upon the size, door type, finish, and controls, so each door has its own quote. Verify inclusions in your quote such as delivery, installation, wiring, and taxes.
What warranty comes with the door?
Doors have a coverage of 2 years against deficiencies in materials and craftsmanship. Gray, tan and white painted finishes have a warranty of 40 years against flaking, peeling, and cracking.
